The Story of Hotel Mediterraneo
Welcome to Marie's Mediterraneo Hotel, a hidden gem on the enchanting island of Kastellorizo.
Hotel Mediterraneo is a small boutique hotel on the harbour front of Kastellorizo, the easternmost island of Greece, known also as Megisti and Meis. A restored seafront house of seven individually designed rooms, it was the first hotel created by Parisian architect Marie Rivalant, and the one that first drew design-minded travellers to one of the Dodecanese's best-kept secrets.
From an Old Pension to a Seafront Retreat
The building began life as a modest pension set directly on the water. When Marie opened the hotel in 2000, she lovingly transformed into an elegant escape that reflects her passion for simplicity, beauty, and authenticity.
Over the years it has become part of the fabric of the harbour: the place that, more than any other, put this tiny island on the map for travellers in search of somewhere quieter and more authentic than the well-trodden Greek islands.
A House of Seven Rooms
The hotel has seven rooms in all, sea view and garden view, together with a ground-floor seafront suite that opens straight onto the water, for a swim before breakfast.
Each room is different, decorated individually in the colours and patterns of the island, yet all share the same sense of calm and care, creating a space where guests can unwind and reconnect with the essence of island life.

Breakfast on the Terrace
Each morning begins on the terrace overlooking the harbour, with a breakfast that reflects the island's crossroads of cultures, Greek, Turkish and French.
Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts, homemade preserves, freshly baked bread and local cheeses, eaten slowly as the harbour wakes.
The Seafront Setting
The hotel sits right on the water, a few minutes' walk from the heart of the village, at the very edge of Greece just across a narrow channel from the Turkish coast.
It is a place made for slowness, for swimming off the quay, for long breakfasts, and for watching the light change over the Aegean.
Every part of Hotel Mediterraneo carries the hand of its creator, the Parisian architect Marie Rivalant, whose story, and the second hotel she went on to create, is one worth telling on its own.
